Poker for Piano a Great Success!!!
It was a fabulous evening under the stars for dinner as the 53 guests feasted on Takako Hasegawa's wonderfully prepared dishes from some of Saratoga's finest restaurants, as well as Takako's, Joyce Lauro’s, and Laurie Cheung's kitchens. Two poker tables consisted of nervous beginners, some who have never even played cards, and two other rowdy poker tables had seasoned and cool players from our SMB family. A hearty thanks to all the poker players who plopped down their hard-earned money to start the fund for our SHS Choir department's new grand piano. Jim Yowell came to show his gratitude, gracing our event with a beautiful flower bouquet.
The Beginner First Place wine basket prize was donated by Mike Workman and the Tournament First Place prize bottle of wine was donated by Fran Barton. Joe Beyers, a connoisseur of fine wines was delighted with his prize, and happy that his claim at check-in, "I'm gonna win this thing!" came true. We won't reveal who else said the same exact words at the beginning of the evening.
Past presidents Madeline Morrow, Ed Bordeleau, and John Haggerty came for dinner and enjoyed the comeraderie and remenisced about what SMB was like back in their day. Michael Boitz made a grand entrance after his SS concert at Le Petit Trianon with a beautiful bouquet of roses.
It was a great evening in Maureen's beautiful home with SMB supporters both past and present enjoying the friendly community spirit we all work so hard to preserve. Thank you all,
Beverly Harada, Takako Hasegawa & Maureen Barton
