Redwood Marching Band debuts at Newark Hometown Parade
SMB thanks Jonathan Jow, Redwood Assistant Music Director, for this article -
Redwood arrived in Newark in the morning under a cloudy gray sky and a few small droplets of condensation that reminded us of last year's Newark Parade, where it didn't just rain, it poured! This year, however, the skies slowly cleared as Redwood marched down the street and woke up the sun by the beginning of that Saturday afternoon. The sounds of "Torch of Liberty " march, sparkling I.D. shields of the REDWOOD name, flying flags of the color guard, and the quick spin of the drum major's baton brought both smiles and cheers of the Newark community!
After a great afternoon at the Newark Fair, the Redwood band took home first place trophies for I.D. Unit, Color Guard, Drum Major, and overall Middle School Band. Great job, Griffins! Redwood's next competition will be the Santa Cruz Band Review bright and early on October 18. Come support us, then spend a fun day at the Boardwalk until the awards ceremony in the late afternoon!
